The Power of Music – Eine Liebeserklärung an die Musik

Kennt Ihr dieses Gefühl? Ihr hört einen bestimmten Song und BOOM! – auf einmal seid ihr ganz woanders. Musik zaubert ein Lächeln auf unser Gesicht, bringt uns zum Tanzen und ja, manchmal rührt sie uns auch zu Tränen. Kurz gesagt: Es gibt kaum etwas im Leben, das uns so berührt, wie Musik.

Wir von SofaConcerts glauben an die Kraft von Musik: Eine Kraft, die Menschen bewegt, unabhängig von Alter, Geschlecht oder Nationalität. Eine universelle Sprache, die jeder versteht. Es ist die Liebe zur Musik, die unsere SofaConcerts Community weltweit verbindet. Und genau das wollten wir mit unserem neuen Video, „The Power of Music“, ausdrücken.

Dafür haben wir ganz unterschiedliche Persönlichkeiten zu einem Interview eingeladen: vom 2-jährigen Kind bis hin zur 81-jährigen Oma. Eine Bunte Mischung von Menschen, von denen wir wissen wollten: Was genau bedeutet für dich Musik? Anschließend spielten wir ihnen drei Songs vor und waren gespannt auf ihre Emotionen. Wir starteten mit Solomon Seed und El Caribefunk, zwei SofaConcerts Bands, bei deren Gute-Laune-Musik man die Füße nicht stillhalten kann. Als letztes Lied spielten wir ihnen den Song vor, der für sie eine große persönliche Bedeutung hat. 

Doch mit dem, was dann passierte, hätten wir selbst nicht gerechnet…

Wir hörten Geschichten von unvergesslichen Urlauben. Von Menschen, die das Leben unserer Interviewteilnehmer veränderten. Man erzählte uns tiefe Lebensweisheiten, die uns mitten ins Herz trafen. Es wurde gemeinsam getanzt, gelacht und manchmal floss sogar die ein oder andere Träne… Und mit jedem Interview wurde es immer deutlicher: Musik berührt uns Menschen auf eine emotionale Weise, die seinesgleichen sucht.

Wir sind noch immer überwältig von unserem Videodreh. Es war ein Tag voller tiefer Emotionen und freudiger Momente, an die wir uns noch lange zurückerinnern werden…

Meadows - Sweden

Meadows is definitely our artist of the week! - Within two weeks he has gone from 500 to 40.000 Facebook fans. We are so proud Meadows! But how did he manage that? After several published singles, the singer-songwriter recently released his first EP, "The Only Boy Awake". The titular song was used beautifully in Netflix's new series, 13 Reasons Why. Wow! In the last few years, the Swede has traveled with his guitar trough Scandinavia, Germany, England and America. He writes songs that start quiet and end in a true sound storm - a mixture of folk and pop. We have already seen him live and are in love! Musically Meadow's is great and he is also a very nice and friendly person who makes your living room concert unforgettable!

Katey Brooks - United Kingdom

"Katey gave us a fantastic performance, she has a fantastic voice and some great songs. Highly recommended!" said Gallagher's Nest, a SofaConcert's host. Katey Brooks is a singer and songwriter from London who writes folksongs with alternative, soul, and blues elements. She grew up in a family of musicians who often traveled, and spent thus time in Bristol, London and Arizona in her youth. You can especially hear this cultural mixture in her unique sound with her self-written, lively lyrics. In the last few years, Katey celebrated some big successes, but she still finds her inspiration for writing on the streets of the world and the people she meets on her travels or concerts. Now, Katey is back in the studio to finish her latest album "We Are The People", which will be released by the end of the year.

My Glorious - Austria

We continue with an indie rock trio from Vienna comprised of Sami Goodenough and the twins Gregor & Paul Saile. My Glorious are the living room concert band par excellence! Think rock in the living room would be unthinkable and way too much noise? Definitely not. Even if they are loud on big stages, they can also delight living-room concerts or garden open-airs with a small unplugged session. Last month the band released their new single "The Dark Idea", always with the aim of meeting open ears touching and inspiring people with their music. One of our hosts, Klavierreich said, "Our barn was rocked by My Glorious with hot, loud, and soft sounds. Everybody in the crowd was swept away by the boys and their music. It was also cool to get some knowledge about the background of the songs. "

Juda Jay - France

How about instead of folk and indie, we send some some hip-hop to your ears! Juda Jay grew up in California and now lives in Paris. He mixes his West Coast influences with different flows and melodies – he creates deep songs that require some thought, but at the same time he writes some wonderful good-mood songs for laughing and enjoying life. Through his music, Juda Jay embodies his version of the American Dream - doing what you believe in, hope and you doin’ it your own way. Juda Jay also let French rap flow into his songs, so he gives the listener an insight into the French culture, too. Very cool!

Ryan Tennis - America

The songs of Ryan Tennis invite you to dream and enjoy. The American has already been around the world many times – he has toured through Switzerland, Argentina, Germany, Australia, Colombia and Ireland – and sweetened many people with his music. He describes his own music as a road trip to a new place with a good friend, so his songs are sometimes heart-warming ballads and other times funky-soul reggae songs. One of our hosts, Jannes Willrodt had this to say about Ryan Tennis, "This Dude rocks! Saw him many times now and organized some gigs for him. Every time a unique show with heart and spirit. You should definitely meet this talented musician cause he´s a fine human being, too! "

Little Strike - America

Next, we come to one of our newcomers, Little Strike - an Israeli musician named Tamar Dart, who moved to Miami with her parents at the age of fifteen because of the political situation in Israel, now she currently calls Philadelphia her home but also was after her study a year in China, Thailand and Nepal. Do you remember Dido? Her voice reminds us of her somehow, but Little Strike makes folk music with electronic elements and lyrics in English, Spanish, Hebrew and French. Now you are exited? Then listen in!

Kaurna Cronin - Australia

As a small child, the Australian Kaurna Cronin was always surrounded by music. The reason - his parents were very much into live music and they traveled often in a Camper with him from festival to festival. As a result, he came in contact with the music genre, which has influenced him to this day: Folk. Cornin's unmistakable sound comes from mixing his soft voice with instruments like his guitar, drums or a harmonica. This mixture has already given the Australian three high-ranking awards and many great performances at festivals or clubs in his hometown of Australia, but also in Europe. Lean back and enjoy his latest song with us!

Shanti Powa - Italy

For the end, we have something upbeat for you! Shanti Powa, one of our newcomer bands, who have recently registered from Italy, is made up of twelve members that make funky hip-hop with influences of reggae and dancehall music. During their music career, they have already performed in many corners of Europe and now they are working on their third album. In the summer, they are also back on tour in England, Germany, Italy and maybe even soon in your living room.

Endlich ist es soweit, der Frühling ist da und wir sehnen uns nach den ersten richtigen Sommertagen, nach Open Airs und vor allem nach Barbecue Sessions mit Freunden.

Raus aus der Wohnung und ab in die Natur! Viele verbinden SofaConcerts primär mit Konzerten im Wohnzimmer. Dass dies nicht nur der Fall ist, wollen wir euch heute zeigen – denn gerade bei gutem Wetter ergeben sich viele geniale Möglichkeiten auch mal andere Orte zur Bühne zu machen und ein eigenes SofaConcerts Open Air zu veranstalten.

Kein Platz für Konzerte im Haus – kein Problem, einfach draußen feiern! Diese Location ist das beste Bespiel dafür, dass ihr nicht immer ein großes Wohnzimmer für ein Konzert benötigt und sich auch kleine Gärten ganz hervorragend für Sofakonzerte eignen. Musiker Tom Klose: „Das war einfach grandios bei Henning im Garten! Es waren ne Menge Leute da, die sowohl aufmerksam zugehört, als auch bei den Songs mitgesungen haben.“

Die (Lebens)- Künstler WG

Diese Kunst und Musik liebende WG hat auch schon das ein oder andere SofaConcert in ihrem gemütlichen Garten veranstaltet und ihren Freunden damit den Tag versüßt. Musiker Peter Piek: “YEAH!!!! Das war eines der besten Konzerte egal ob Sofa oder nicht. Da, in diesem Garten, der wie eine Art Dschungel daherkam und dann das wunderbar aufmerksame, begeisterte Publikum…“

Klavierreich

Die Gastgeber Christina und Robert sind schon lange bei SofaConcerts und wissen wie der Hase läuft. Seither veranstalten sie in ihrer gemütlichen Scheune Sofakonzerte, bei gutem Wetter finden diese dann einfach unter freiem Himmel vor der Scheune statt. Wir finden die Idee klasse! So auch die Künstlerin Anne Römer: “Es war mir ein Fest bei Euch zu spielen! Vielen Dank für ein tolles Brunchkonzert mit super Gästen, grandiosem Wetter und natürlich Euch als fantastische Gastgeber.“

WilderWaldgarten

Wie wäre es wohl einfach mal ein Sofakonzert im Wald zu veranstalten?! Das haben sich auch diese Gastgeber gedacht und kurzerhand zu einem Konzert in einem nahegelegten Wald eingeladen. So konnte man sich wunderbar von der schönen Natur mit musikalischer Untermalung verzaubern lassen und sich voll und ganz entspannen. Eine gelungene Umsetzung, wie man Orte durch Musik neu inszenieren kann. So einfach und so wunderbar!

Was gibt es schöneres als einen entspannten Nachmittag draußen mit Freuden, kalten Getränken und Musik zu genießen?! Unsere Bands sind so flexibel, dass sie sich euren Locations anpassen und auch im akustischen Setting bei lauen Sommerabenden überzeugen! Doch nicht lang schnacken – hört selber!

“ At first I wasn't sure if this was some kind of German birthday tradition …”

More and more international artists are joining us and use SofaConcerts for their tour across Europe, and so did Duncan Woods from Australia. As soon as Duncan registered on SofaConcerts he was enthusiastic to share his cheerful music with hosts around the world. His music reminded us of Jack Johnson and after a short period of time he confirmed his first gig. Duncan travels through Europe with his guitar and backpack for a couple of months every year to inspire people with his music. We met him at one gig in Hamburg and he told us about his different experiences with SofaConcerts. This story moved us in particular; so we don’t want to withhold it from you:

Duncan was invited to the home of a young couple in a small town of Germany where he had never been before. It was a warm summer evening. That same day Duncan played a gig in Nuremberg and was late to catch his train. However, he managed to get there with some delay and when he finally made it to Würzburg, nothing could go wrong anymore! The host’s father picked him up at the train station and brought him to the couple’s garden, where the concert was to take place.

Just a normal SofaConcert: a living room, some friends and an evening full of music. At least, this is what Duncan thought until then… But everything turned out differently ;)

When they entered the yard, there were beautiful lights hung up everywhere, small tents and benches. It was like in a movie; everything looked so beautiful and the people were lovely. Nevertheless Duncan had a strange feeling: he felt that something was going on, but thought that it was just a mixed feeling due to his delay. Everything was well prepared and it seemed like everyone was waiting for him to get things started. When Michael seemed a bit nervous Duncan thought it was just because of Maria’s special day – her birthday. He had no clue how special it would become…

Just as he was about to start playing he saw Michael getting down on one knee in front of Maria. This was the most awe-inspiring moment anyone could have had. The guests were gasping and looking at each other, all of them were surprised. After the first round of excitement was gone, everything went quiet; all eyes were on Michael and Maria, waiting for him. As an Australian, Duncan wasn't sure if this was some kind of German birthday tradition. The thing is Michael had kept his plan very secret from everyone including the musician.

“Maria, will you marry me?”

He had just popped the question. Michael was on one knee and looked at her expectantly. She couldn’t keep her emotions to herself and started crying as soon as the first words from Michael’s mouth were becoming real. She managed to spill the word with a trembling and tearful voice “Yes, I do!”. People began to cheer and congratulate the couple with so much joy! Afterwards, a bubble of happiness was covering the evening.

Then it was up to Ducan, to to recover from the surprise and kick the party off with his music and jumped straight into a set mashing up all the love songs he could think of into one medley. For him, being caught up in this moment with everyone and being able to add his music to the atmosphere was priceless. The proposal added a new ripple of excitement to the party. People were full of joy and buzzing to have been a part of this unforgettable occasion!
