Retrospect 2016

The year has only just begun, and a new one is already about to start… we can hardly believe it! It was an incredibly exciting year for us with so many things going on - maybe you only met us this year. We are so happy that you are a part of our ventures!

Instead of stumbling directly into the new year, we would like to remember the last one once again for you. Unbelievable what can happen in a year ...

Hurray, the time has come: we took our laptops, our dear lamp and the guitar and moved

into our first own office. Many thanks to the Social Impact Lab in Hamburg, it was a wonderful time with you! But our new, small but fine office is comfortably furnished and we are right in the middle between great neighbors like Viva con Agua, Wandnotiz, the wonderful Mitra and many other lovely people. If you are in Hamburg, just come over for a visit – the Knust, a club where many of our artists play, is directly over the way.

And our creative vein was also quite active:

Time don’t take you back, it’s only moving on…

We started our year with a very emotional video shoot: It is a Wednesday morning. We have chosen the best day for our experiment, as Hamburg shows itself from its typical side: It is cold, rainy and gray. If that will work? With our floor lamp, the band Nature in the City and a mysterious envelope in the hand, we are on our way to the city. Our goal: unsuspecting passers-by, who we want to take out from their routine.

“Good Morning, do you a have moment of time for us? It’s about a little experiment.”

Our team member Johanna walks straight to the first passer-by and pulls out a brown envelope. The initial skepticism of our first volunteer changes to curiosity. Would you give an envelope to anyone around here - without knowing what it is all about?

The envelope moves from one curious face to the another. From one stranger to the next. When the envelope has been opened and an expiring hourglass and a small card with the inscription “MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT ... YOU WILL NEVER GET IT BACK” comes to surface. At the same time the band Nature in the City sneaks up from behind ... Well, you can see here what happened next.

A little spoiler in advance ;) It was an emotional day for u s- it is incredible to see how a small gesture can effectuate something that great.

Well, for sure this wasn’t our only surprise idea this year!

                                                                                                        Sofa Surprise in the City

In the late summer months, we planned our biggest campaign this year. The result has been seen in total more than 15 million times: from the Brazilian news station, over a dozen newspapers in Germany to Jérome Boateng, all of them have shared the Unity video. So this is what is called virality J One million views in less than 24 hours - we sat in our office with open mouths & in the coming weeks we were happy to welcome countless new SofaConcerts fans. The idea was imitated in the following months by some people, over France, England, to Canada ... But see for yourself!

Bosse & SofaConcerts join forces

And because we loved all the reactions so much, there was another nice surprise in November. This time with prominent support from the German chart-breaker BOSSE. His album ‘Engtanz’, was at number one hit in the German music charts shortly after the release and we have always liked him a lot. Why? Because he is simply authentic, spontaneous and above all creative. A perfect fit for us, we thought, - and had a lot of fun together!

At this point, again many thanks to Aki Bosse! It was a such a plearue to work with you - we still have a big smile on our faces when we think of the day and we are sure the concert host Conny feels the same ...

Beneath our creative work, we did work a lot to make our platform grow internationally.
Now there are hosts and artists from 16 countries on SofaConcerts.org. Isn’t this crazy? Even artists from New Zealand, Australia, Vietnam, USA are present. The stages are also becoming more and more creative: From the classic living room, to holiday houses in France and Canada, to barns in the countryside, to an olive garden in Greece: Our vision ‘Every place can be a stage!’ is coming true more and more!

However, what motivates us most are the small and the big stories of the moments that take place at the concerts. Yes, SofaConcerts are emotional. They are about engagements, surprise concerts, new friendships. There is always a story behind the concert and some of your messages have moved us to tears. Thanks for that!

And soon, 2016 passed by. So many things happened and even more will happen in the next. There’s still a lot of music lovers who have never experienced a SofaConcert yet. We want to change this, together with your help!

Thanks a lot to you all of you guys! We wish you a good start and a happy, exciting year 2017: Full of beautiful moments with your friends and loved ones, and, of course, with great live music! We are looking forward to it!

SofaConcerts et BOSSE - Un concert privé hors du commun.

Imagine, tu invites un chanteur inconnu dans ton salon…
...qui se révèle être la Pop-star numéro un de ton pays – déguisée !

C’est ce qui est arrivé à Constance et ses invités.

C’est vendredi, dans un salon au cœur d'Hambourg (Allemagne), une vingtaine de personnes se sont rassemblés pour profiter d’un peu de musique avec la chaleur de leurs amis et de la famille. Constance l’hôte, avait en tête d’organiser un sofa concert depuis longtemps. Le ciel gris et l’envie de réunir ses amis lui ont donné assez de raisons pour inviter Jimmy Folks chez elle. Mais avant de te raconter la suite, revenons deux semaines en arrière. Là où tout a commencé.

L’ambiance est à son comble à SofaConcerts. Tout le monde est souriant et excité. Trouve quelque chose que tu aimes et fais-le tous les jours. La nôtre est de surprendre des gens adorables avec de la bonne musique ! L’idée est finalisée, nous sommes prêts à passer à l’attaque : nous allons inviter une pop-star allemande et le déguiser en un musicien de country pour un hôte qui n’en sait rien. Aussitôt dit, aussitôt fait ! Nous sommes super excités, ni une ni deux, Axel Bosse passe le pas de notre porte. « Faisons-le !» s’exclame-t-il.

Nos bureaux sont immédiatement transformés en coiffeuse, son sweat-shirt gris est remplacé par une chemise à carreaux et sa casquette en chapeau de cowboy. Pia, notre maquilleuse a métamorphosé BOSSE en Jimmy Folks en lui ajoutant une fausse barbe et des faux cheveux, le rendant 10 ans plus vieux. La seule chose qui manque, est maintenant un profil d’artiste sur la plateforme SofaConcerts. Photo de profil, contenu vidéo et audio, descriptions et quelques commentaires positifs plus tard, nous le proclamons « artiste de la semaine » ! Il ne reste plus qu’à attendre. Deux semaines passent et nous recevons un appel : « On vient de me réserver ! » s’exclame Aki alias BOSSE. Parfait, notre plan fonctionne. 

19h45 - Revenons à Constance. L’excitation monter petit à petit, le concert devrait bientôt commencer. Mais Jimmy n’est toujours pas là… La sonnette sonne et Constance ouvre la porte, le voilà, notre chanteur de country ! Une bise amicale puis direction le salon. Il installe rapidement ses instruments, se présente lui, ses deux autres musiciens et c’est parti ! Jimmy Folks commence avec un classique « Leaving on a Jet Plane » pour s’échauffer. Sa voix est plaisante et calme les invités. Presque tous ont les yeux fermés et leurs pieds tapent en rythme avec la musique. « La prochaine chanson vient d’Hambourg » dit Jimmy et les premières notes retentissent. Certains invités semblent reconnaitre le morceau. Le refrain commence et on peut déjà entendre certains commentaires « C’est pas possible… », « La voix me semble familière ». Qui pourrait croire qu’un musicien qui fait de la country ait la même voix que Bosse, l’interprète original du morceau ? Tout le monde est sans voix. Ca ne peut pas être lui, il ne lui ressemble pas… Ou bien ?

Petit à petit Jimmy commence à retirer sa barbe. Tout le monde se regarde pour essayer de comprendre. Est-ce possible ? Non… Puis il enlève son chapeau et laisse tomber ses cheveux. WOW ! C’est réellement BOSSE ! La pop-star numéro un, dans le salon de Constance ! Tous les invités restaient bouche bée. Toutes les mains étaient sur les bouches, choqués par l’improbabilité de la situation. Il joue quelques autres de ses chansons puis le concert est fini, mais l’émotion reste à son comble, BOSSE ouvre ses bras à chaque invité et se prend en photo avec eux. Personne dans cette pièce n’oubliera cette soirée, vois par toi-même…. 

Nous voulons dire un GRAND MERCI à toutes les personnes impliquées dans la réalisation de ce super projet. C’est grâce à l’aide de nos complices que se fût réalisable ! Un merci particulièrement à Simon & Paul, Dennis Dirksen, Peter Wilhelm, Ilyas Mokhlis et Pia Norberg. Vous êtes super ! Et le plus important bien sûr : Aki alias Bosse, le meilleur ! Merci tellement pour votre support et ce concert unique ! On le refait sans hésitation !

Afin de partager notre joie et gratitude avec toi, nous avons gardé quelque chose de spécial après la venue de Bosse. Jusqu’au 30 Novembre, nous allons mettre le profil de Jimmy  une dernière fois en ligne, si tu l’invites à un Sofa concerts dans les deux semaines qui viennent, tu auras la chance de gagner son dernier album signé ! An extraordinary sofa concert with BOSSE!

Imagine you invite an unknown country artist to your living room…

…and then a pop star walks through the door – undercover!

This is exactly what happened to Conny and her guests.

It’s Friday night. In a cozy living room in the heart of Germany, twenty people have gathered to enjoy some great music with their friends and family. Conny, the host, has wanted to bring a sofa concert to her apartment for quite some time. The grey weather and the urge to see her friends have given her enough reason to invite one of our newcomers, Jimmy Folks, to her home. But let us take you back two weeks …

The atmosphere is thrilling. Everyone in the office is smiling and excited. Find something you love and then do it every day. Well, we found something we love - we love to surprise lovely people with great music and now it is time to do it again. The idea was finalized and we were ready for our next stunt. Our plan is to invite a well-known German pop star, dress him up as a country singer, and let him play a sofa concert “undercover” for a clueless host. Said and done. We all are extremely excited and just like that Axel Bosse walks through the door of our office. Cheerful and relaxed he introduces himself. “Let’s do this!” he says and then everything changed. Our office tables were exchanged for a dressing table, the grey sweater was now a checkered shirt and the cap, a country hat. 

In no time, Pia our make-up artist, turned BOSSE into Jimmy Folks. With the help of a fake beard, fake hair and a little bit of make-up, he now looked 10 years older. A new country star was born. The only thing missing was a profile on our SofaConcerts platform. A profile picture was quickly taken, some feedback was written by us, and our new artist of the week was chosen. Now patience was the key…We waited for two weeks when a call came in. “I just got booked!” shouted Aki alias BOSSE through the phone. Perfect!

19:45 pm – now back to Conny. The excitement in the room builds and soon the concert will start. But where is Jimmy? Ah finally! The doorbell rings and Conny opens the door. There he is. A friendly kiss on each cheek and off he goes in to the living room and quickly sets up the instruments. A short introduction is given of Jimmy, his pianist, and his guitarist and then he launches straight away into a classic: “Leaving on a Jet Plane”. His voice is beautiful and the harmonic sounds calm the guests. Almost everyone has their eyes closed and their feet start to tap to the rhythm of the music. 

“The next song is from Hamburg.” says Jimmy and the first chords begin. Some of the guests seem to recognize the song as it begins. The chorus starts and from the other side of the room you can hear whispers. “That’s not possible”. “The voice sounds so familiar” says another. Who would have thought a country musician could sound so much like BOSSE, the original singer of the song? Everyone is totally impressed. The voice is so similar and the moves too, but then again, he doesn’t look anything like BOSSE. Or does he?

Slowly Jimmy starts to undo his beard. Everyone is looking at each other. Could this be possible? No way. Next, the hair and the hat have to go. Is this real? Gasps, claps, shouts. WOW! This is not Jimmy. This is indeed BOSSE. Who would have thought the night would turn out like this? A well-known German artist in Conny’s living room – Conny and the guests sure didn’t expect anything like this. BOSSE is really here. They still can’t believe what is happening. He plays a few more of his own songs and after that he stays to talk to everyone and take pictures. No one in this living room will ever forget this night. It is a good thing we also have it on camera, so that you can see for yourself….

Aki you were the best, thank you so much for this great experience. It was a pleasure watching you become Jimmy Folks ;) We want to say a big THANK YOU to all the people who were involved in the making of this wonderful project. Only with the help of our accomplices was this was possible! You guys were amazing! J

BOSSE - Undercover bei einem Sofakonzert

Stell dir vor du lädst einen unbekannten Newcomer ein…

… und es kommt einer der deutschen Popstars zu dir nach Hause – Undercover!

Genau das passierte Conny und ihren Gästen.

Es ist Freitagabend. Im Herzen von Hamburg haben sich circa 20 Leute in einem gemütlichen Wohnzimmer zusammengefunden. Schon seit einiger Zeit, hatte die Gastgeberin Conny mit dem Gedanken gespielt ein Sofakonzert zu veranstalten. Das graue Herbstwetter und die Lust mal wieder alle Freunde zu sehen, hat sie dazu bewegt unseren Künstler der Woche einzuladen. Ein Countrysänger soll es sein, Jimmy Folks heißt er und laut seinen Bewertungen ein großartiger Entertainer noch dazu. 
Perfekt für ihr erstes eigenes Sofakonzert, oder?

Auf jeden Fall, doch lasst‘ uns nochmal einige Wochen zurückspringen. Im SofaConcerts Büro herrscht großes Treiben: über 10 Leute tummeln sich hier herum, jeder mit einem Grinsen im Gesicht. Das Büro gleicht einem modernen Kosmetikstudio mit integriertem Second Hand Modeshop und vorübergehendem Kamerastudio. Die Stimmung ist ausgelassen. Axel Bosse tritt gut gelaunt durch unsere Tür und nach einem kurzen Hallo sitzt er auch schon am Schminktisch – ein neuer Star am Countrymusik Himmel soll er werden. Der Bierbauch wird angelegt, die Lederjacke übergeworfen und das Aussehen komplett verändert. Bart, Haare, 10 Jahre älter… Pia unsere Maskenbildnerin macht BOSSE innerhalb weniger Zeit zu einem komplett neuen Menschen. Schnell werden Bilder geschossen, ein ansprechendes Künstlerprofil auf SofaConcerts erstellt und die besten Bewertungen von Gastgebern von uns geschrieben. Schwups da ist er auch schon auf unserer Startseite und glänzt als Künstler der Woche, bereit um gebucht zu werden. Wenn da keiner anbeißt, dann wissen wir auch nicht … Jetzt heißt es nur noch Tee trinken und abwarten…

Zwei Wochen sind vergangen und uns erreicht ein Anruf. „Ich wurde gebucht!!“, ruft Aki durch das Telefon. Halleluja, wir sind erleichtert!

19.45Uhr – zurück bei Conny. Die Spannung steigt. Eine kurze Nachricht, ob es ok ist, wenn Jimmy Folks für seine Promozwecke neben dem Konzert ein Unplugged-Video drehen kann. Kein Problem für Conny, sie hat einfach nur Lust und ist gespannt auf einen tollen Abend mit ihren Freunden. Alle warten schon ungeduldig auf Jimmy, der um 20.00 Uhr loslegen sollte. Endlich. Es klingelt und vor der Tür wartet ein Countrysänger, wie er im Buche steht. Der Hut sitzt, der Bart auch! Dazu folgt eine herzliche Begrüßung. Küsschen links, Küsschen rechts. Sein Gitarrist und seine Pianistin mischen sich auch schon unter die Leute. Nur noch die Instrumente aufbauen und los geht’s. 

Jimmy begrüßt die Gäste und berichtet von seinen letzten Wohnzimmerkonzerten. Die Songs werden angespielt. Auch ein echter Klassiker der Countrymusik: „Leaving on a Jet Plane“ ist dabei. Man merkt, er ist noch ein wenig unsicher. Doch die Gäste hören aufmerksam zu und lauschen den stimmungsvollen Klängen. Die ersten Füße beginnen mitzuwippen. Das nächste Lied soll ein Song aus Hamburg werden, kündigt Jimmy an. Die ersten Töne klingen auch schon recht bekannt. „Die Stimme kommt mir bekannt vor.“, flüstert die eine. „Das kann nicht sein…“, hört man es vom anderen Ende des Zimmers. Und der Refrain beginnt…“Es war die schönste Zeit, die schönste Zeit…“. Alle sind total begeistert, denn Jimmy klingt fast so wie das Original. Flüstern und erstaunte Blicke….Irgendwas stimmt hier nicht, dann ist da noch so eine typische Bewegung, das Aussehen ist anders aber…. Oder doch nicht?? 

Langsam zieht Jimmy seinen Bart ab. Die Gäste schauen sich irritiert an. Als er als nächstes die schulterlangen Haare und den Hut abnimmt, geht ein Raunen durchs Publikum. Wahnsinn. Das ist nicht Jimmy. Das ist BOSSE. Man hätte ja so einiges erwartet an einem Freitagabend, aber das anstatt einem Newcomer auf einmal ein bekannter Sänger im Wohnzimmer steht – nein das konnte man nicht glauben…

Live und in Farbe in diesem Wohnzimmer! Jubel hallt durch den Raum. Alle sehen sich verdutzt an und können es immer noch nicht fassen, wer da vor ihnen steht. 
Conny und ihre Gäste waren komplett aus dem Häuschen. Was war da gerade geschehen? Wirklichkeit oder Traum? Naja, ihr habt es ja schon gelesen. Aber hier nochmal zum Nachschauen… 

Aki es hat wahnsinnig viel Spaß gemacht dich in eine andere Rolle schlüpfen zu sehen und du hast wirklich alle begeistert! Vielen Dank für dieses unvergessliche Erlebnis und wer weiß vielleicht hört man ja doch nochmal etwas von Jimmy Folks ;) 

An dieser Stelle möchten wir uns auch noch herzlich bei der gesamten Crew für die großartige Unterstützung bedanken. Nur mit unseren Komplizen schaffen wir es immer wieder, euch zu überraschen. Ihr wart toll! J
